I-90 Snoqualmie Pass Widening: Phase 1B - Hyak to Snowshed

Snoqualmie Pass, Washington: Project widened over 2 miles of Interstate 90 through Snoqualmie Pass, taking this highly traveled stretch from 4 lanes to 6 lanes of traffic.

Project Details

Snoqualmie Pass is easily the most traveled mountain pass in Washington. MJK partnered with WSDOT to widen over two miles of I-90 from four lanes to six. With the freeway set between a steep and rocky hillside and Lake Keechelus, the team worked in very tight quarters. Immense blasting was required to make room for the widening, and decrease the threat of landslides. MJK built six new precast girder bridges, and raised the roadway up several feet. MJK worked proactively with WSDOT to ensure that the impact on the environment was minimal, and that permits were strictly complied with.
