Downtown Redmond Link Light Rail Extension (R200)

A historic extension of Link Light Rail into Downtown Redmond

Project Details

Sound Transit selected the Stacy and Witbeck / Kuney Joint Venture (SWK JV) to build the $800m Downtown Redmond Link Extension from 2019-2025.

SWK formed a cohesive team and delivered the award-winning 3.4-mile project, extending Sound Transit light rail from the Microsoft campus to Downtown Redmond through a highly constrained urban corridor. The project included at-grade and elevated guideway, complex bridge and aerial structures, and two architecturally prominent stations adjacent to SR-520, downtown arterials, and active public rights-of-way. The scope of the contract also included the delivery of a 1,400-space parking garage, the overhead catenary system, traction power substations, train control and communications, special trackwork and other associated utilities, street and trail improvements.

Work involved phased roadway reconstruction, temporary pedestrian bridges to maintain school and community connectivity, and close coordination with the City of Redmond and Sound Transit to minimize public impacts. Architectural finishes were a key focus at both stations and the Marymoor Village parking garage, requiring strict adherence to Sound Transit design standards and community facing aesthetic.
