SW Admiral Way North & South Bridges Seismic Retrofit

Project Details

The seismic retrofit of the SW Admiral Way Bridges in Seattle aims to enhance the strength and resilience of these key structures. The project involves significant upgrades to two bridges, originally built in 1927 (North Bridge) and 1949 (South Bridge). The scope of work includes installing carbon fiber wrapping on specific bridge elements, stabilizing slopes to prevent erosion and maintain structural integrity, painting steel components to protect against corrosion, repairing cracks and damaged concrete to restore strength, and modifying and replacing expansion joints to improve seismic performance.

Scheduled to begin in June 2024 and lasting approximately nine months, these retrofits will significantly improve the bridges' ability to withstand seismic activity, contributing to a safer and more reliable transportation network for Seattle. This project aligns with SDOT's commitment to equity, safety, mobility, sustainability, livability, and excellence, ensuring the long-term resilience and functionality of the SW Admiral Way Bridges.
