Upriver Dam Spillway Rehabilitation – Phase III

Project Details

Constructed in 1937, the Upriver Dam is a 229 ft long concrete gravity dam with the sole purpose of generating electricity required to operate pumps that relay water from the Rathdrum Prairie Aquifer to the City of Spokane's residents. The project entailed rehabilitation of several different structural concrete elements, along with substantial repairs to one of the eight spillway Tainter gates. These repairs included the removal & installation of newly fabricated gate seals, bracing, radial arms, and trunnion pins. One of the highlights of the project was the innovative approach to the extraction and replacement of the heavily worn trunnion pins.
